The crazies: Narrative

Give two examples of events that cause later events in the film, but which occurs before the film ‘starts’.

One example of an event that happens before the narrative starts is the virus being created, somewhere this was made in a lab which is the part we don’t see but this resulted in the story of people being infected by it which is what was told in the film which is what we do see. Another example is david and russel find the plane which has crashed in the water and what was presumabliy carrying the virus, we don’t se the plane actaully crash or release the virus but both of these are important to the narrative.

Lost two events from the 92-minute film film that happrn in a dfferent time and space to the one we are shown.

One thing that we know that had happned is all of the people that were ‘safe’ or the ones not infected were exterminated and were gunned down by all of the millitary and then burnt to stop the spread we know this because david and his wife find the bodys with the braclets stacked up and cleaned away which randms wouldn’t of done aswell as an abnormal amount of gun shells on the floor. Another narrative that happens which we don’t see is the one of rory’s wife and son in which they left from the start of the film and must of got infected and evaded capture aswell, and then finally ended up at the sheriffs house to murder him aswell as his wife.

Identify key plot point in the film that you would associate with the three-act structure (act 1= set-up / normality, Act 2= Confrontation/ disruption , Act 3 = Resoloution/ restoration of normality)

Act 1 in this case which is normally  a set-up to the action or some sort of normality within the world but in this case as it a horror this goes against the base conventions of a normal narrative and we get a meer minute of normality before there is something wrong which is rory approaching this seemingly normal baseball game with a shotgun, which results in david having to shoot and kill him. So technically this could be both Act one or act 2 in one, or the disruption could be when the military arrive when people havent started acting full crazy yet. Act three would be the nuke hitting the town and ‘solving’ the problem but it spread anyway to the next town so it doesn’t have a resolution for the ending but a it is a horror film you can expect that.
